“Oltre il Giardino” restored from
an old farmhouse and tranformed to a refined and welcoming “Osteria”, is
already by five years under the new and consolidated managemenet of Paolo Baldini
and Marta Sammicheli.

From the large overhelming terrace looking
towards Chiantishire, there are views out over hills carpeted with generous
vineyeards and the famous wooded area of “Conca d’Oro” of Chianti highlighted
by the green of the olives and Cyprus trees: “Oltre il Giardino” is located
in one of the most tasteful areas of Chianti, a focal point for those Italians
and foreigners who have had the desire to visit this region.
In this spelndid area of Tuscany
one can savour the flavours and odours of the typical cuisine, simple and
genuine.

Ones first impressions are from
seeing the supporting facade with a small arch and the hand of Romanesque
expression enclosed in its tower one find oneself in a little 12th Century
church. When entering one immediately notices the homley of the “Bottega”
with an impression of exquisite refinement and elegance where everything
has a place and is in its place, from Brunelleschi ceramic floors to sights
of antique walnut wood rafters which reign above a rich historic but sober
furniture arrangemenet and where plaster of a warm red hue is married well
with local style. |
After the little entrance step, the
gracious staircase takes one to the two main welcoming rooms and from there
to a little covered terrace (a very ambient atmosphere). Here it is possible,
thanks to the professionalism of Baldini and the culinary art of Marta,
to discover ancient odours and tastes of a past era in a serene and a relaxed
atmosphere far from the frustations and buzz of the big city.
The original peasant dishes are
simple. The Chianti tune of Dario Cecchini. Slice of bread covered with
extra virgin olive oil straight from the oil press, Tuscan salami,
Ribollita (vegetables soup with bread) Noodles with pigeon, Maltagliati
with duck sauce, Large noodles with wild boar, Ravioli filled with sheep’s
cheese and spinach, Ravioli at Mugellana style (filled with potatoes with
meat sauce) to go on with the best meats (such as those eaten by the people
of Chianti as: Peposo al Chianti (beef stew cooked in Chianti wine with
a lot of black peppar), grilled lamb chops, deep fried boned chicken, stewed
wild boar, fresh porcini mushrooms, the superb “Bistecca Fiorentina”
and home made desserts by “Oltre il Giardino”
Tortelli, ravioli and pasta are,
with proud, exclusively made by Marta Sammicheli and Paolo Baldini. |
